ECONOMIC AND ORGANISED CRIME OFFICE
The Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804). Act 804 which was gazette on 7th September, 2010 set up the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) which was set up as a corporate body, abolished the SFO and transferred all its assets and liabilities to the EOCO. It also transferred the officers of the SFO to the EOCO. Major changes which Act 804 introduced included the following:
Act 804 seeks to create a specialized law enforcement agency and therefore has carved out various areas of criminal activity which ordinarily were dealt with by the Ghana Police Service. The functions given to the Office under Act 804 are not new creations, they are generally crimes which the Ghana Police Service has had the necessary authority to deal with, but which are being given to the EOCO being a specialized agency.
