The British High Commissioner Iain Walker together with Ms. Kim Bridger, First Secretary Justice and Home Affairs visited the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice at his office on 19th April,2021.


The visit essentially was to discuss issues of justice delivery in the country and how the two countries can cooperate to promote and strengthen the justice delivery system in the country.
The British High Commissioner used the occasion to express his gratitude to the Attorney -General and Minister for Justice and his office on how they have handled the case involving some British nationals which occurred at Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region.
Mr. Iain Walker indicated that his government was ready to offer assistance to the office to improve on the capacity of Attorneys especially in terms of training.


In his address, Hon.|Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice mentioned some of the activities which his office is undertaking which will require some cooperation and support from his Office.
The Minister also mentioned that, processes are underway to ensure the passage of the Alternative Sentencing Bill, Code of Conduct for Public Officers Bill and reforms in the Intestate Succession Act.


Commenting on the need to ensure speedy justice delivery in the country, the Hon. Attorney-General admitted there were numerous cases piled up that needed to be dealt with. He said he was in discussion with the Chief Justice on how to resolve the situation.
The Minister, however, indicated that, there was the need for reforms in the Civil Procedure Rules. He explained that, there should be reforms in the interrogatory appeal procedure so that, a person cannot frustrate access to justice through the filing of series of interrogatory appeals.
He added that, there was also the need for the establishment of more specialised courts to aid in speedy adjudication of matters.


Honourable Godfred Yeboah Dame used the occasion to once again express his condolences to the High Commissioner on the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh which occurred on the 9th of April,2021.
